For years, the world tried to make me invisible. Amidst family abandonment and the suffocating pressure of unhealthy relationships, I was told—in no uncertain terms—to stay small. But in 2016, I made a choice that changed everything: I stopped waiting for permission to exist and started The Honest Whisper.
The Catalyst: Why This Blog Began
Most blogs begin as a hobby; mine began as an act of resistance. It was born out of the necessity to be heard when the people around me wanted me invisible.
When I founded The Honest Whisper, my external world was a storm of instability. I was navigating the heavy weight of abandonment and the exhausting cycles of deeply unhealthy relationships—all while working around the clock to remain financially independent. At the time, I was already a committed vegan and was just beginning to find my footing in animal rights activism. This part of my identity was often met with resistance; it was one of the many things about me that was not accepted by those I tried to depend on.
I was silenced, I was not heard. I changed this.
During this time, I carried a profound sense of invisibility. I felt as though the people in my life wanted me to disappear, or at the very least, to remain a silent version of myself that didn’t disrupt their comfort. I knew what it felt like to be silenced, ignored, and treated as though my needs didn’t matter.
The Connection: A Shared Connection with the Unheard
But as I found my footing, I realized that “I” was just the beginning.
In this selectively heard world, there is a collective silence forced upon animals, upon women, and upon those struggling with their mental health. I recognized that the feelings of being “less than” or invisible were the exact same injustices animals face every day. By amplifying these unheard voices, we move from personal survival to a universal mission of liberation. No one—human or animal—should be forced to stay small to make others comfortable.
It was through this pain that I found my deepest connection to animal rights. I realized that the feelings of being “less than,” being invisible, and being treated as an object rather than a being with a voice were the exact same injustices animals face every day. I understood their vulnerability because I was living my own version of it. That shared experience of wanting to be seen and respected made me realize how terrible it is to be forced into the shadows, and it fueled a fire in me to help them.
Reclaiming Agency
I eventually realized that I couldn’t wait for permission to exist. I didn’t feel accepted by those around me, so I chose to accept myself and amplify my own voice. This blog became my sanctuary. In a period where I felt I had very little autonomy, The Honest Whisper was mine. It was a space where no one could tell me to be quiet or diminish the importance of animal liberation. It became a digital anchor; even when my personal life felt like it was falling apart, this platform was a place where I could breathe, think, and exist without apology.
I chose the animals, and in doing so, I chose myself.
I share this because I know how many of you feel that same weight. This blog exists to prove that you can build something beautiful out of the wreckage. The Honest Whisper has been more than just a blog; it’s a digital sanctuary for those who believe that compassion is a revolutionary act. Based in Toronto, this platform was born from a simple realization: every individual has a voice, but not every voice is given the space to be heard.
The Vision: Making a Dandelion Wish for a Better World
We have all stood in a field, held a dandelion in our hands, and made a wish. For many, a dandelion is just a weed, but for those of us who have been cast aside, it is a symbol of resilience.
I knew what it felt like to be a “whisper” that no one wanted to hear.
I don’t just wish for a better world anymore; I work for one. Every design in my shop and every article I write is a “wish” cast into the wind. Each like a whisper of an unheard voice. Intended to take root, inspire, and create change. The Dandi Lion logo represents this vision: it combines the Dandelion, symbolizing growth and the ability to thrive in harsh conditions, with the Lion, symbolizing the courage and protective instincts required to speak up for what is right.
The Dandi Lion: A Symbol of Resilience and Protection

You will see the Dandi Lion logo throughout this site and on the merchandise. I designed this symbol to represent the heart of The Honest Whisper. It combines two distinct forces:
- The Dandelion: A symbol of growth, change, and the ability to thrive in harsh conditions. Much like the personal development we discuss here, dandelions are resilient; they can grow through the cracks in the pavement, turning something forgotten into something beautiful.
- The Lion: Represents the courage and protective instincts required to speak up for the vulnerable. On a personal level, this strength was fueled by the inspiration of my cat at the time. During my most isolated years, I realized I could always rely on animals to be a true friend when humans were not. My cat was my anchor; the “Lion” in the logo is a tribute to that unwavering companionship and the fierce protection we owe to those who stand by us in the silence.
In essence, the Dandi Lion reminds us that while we may start as a “whisper,” we have the capacity to grow, to stand our ground, and to protect the rights of all living beings. From there, the blog’s motto blossomed: Nobody is silent. Many are not heard. Change this.
